will and testament
me asked:

I went to a christian school and graduated from there. I was taught almost on a daily basis that god is the same today and he was yesterday as he will be tomorrow. That god is constant. Well then why in the old testament god said it was ok to beat your slave and your son if they disobeyed you as long as they didnt die within 3 days? And the new testament god is all loving and all merciful ? That is just one example. I dont understand.

    The old one got retired.

Greedy religious leaders learned that using a “loving” god who threatens eternal torture better suited their agenda than resorting to his old bloody-fisted image.

The true God from the old and new testament never change. As you said yourself The “True God” at Ps 83:18 is consent. The First Law, the Mosaic Law was for the Israelites. When Jesus came and died for all mankind, he fulfilled that law and introduced a New Covenant where he instructed all his true disciple to follow.

God is the same as now as he was in the beginning. Men wrote the bible and confused the matter. We as humans have changed in that we now know women are just as important as men and in fact without us there would be no human race. further nobody has the right to enslave people let alone beat them again a new concept taking into consideration the last two hundred or so years. Humans make the laws God is sitting up there looking down on us and shaking his head over more serious things that we do like wars and famine. I believe that he has given up on us as we are nothing by destruction and avarice

The God of the old testament was Jehovah. The reason punishments were so severe was the fact that people wouldn’t listen. Just look at what happened after they left Egypt. When Christ was born on the earth the people were ready for the higher law. They were doing better. If that doesn’t make sense here’s a link that you can talk to some pretty smart guys who do know the answer.

I agree with Preston. And you are right God is the same yesterday, today and forever.
