Why in the last 2000-3000 years, has God not been visible to guide his people like he did in the Old Testament?

You see it time after time in the old testament with Abraham, Moses, King David, etc. Where or who is the leader now and why do our people not have the ability to be lead by God like they were thousands of years ago. Is he disgusted with our current world? Will he come back after the bottom falls out? We need God more now than ever.
