    No, you can leave your money to whoever you like.

    In most states everything is communal property. If it is hers too, you can’t stop it. If you have money that is legally just yours, and is documented it is just yours, you can leave it to whomever you wish.

    You don’t HAVE TO leave your money to anyone in particular. It’s your money and, therefore, your choice.

    Wills can be contested by close family members through the courts, with varying degrees of success, especially when dotty old ladies leave their millions to their 18 year-old lap dogs.
