No replacement has ever come close. Petroleum societies are the most efficient and less polluting than any other society or culture. (CO2 is not pollution by the way, its plant food) Big carbon pollutants are 3rd world and china.

Almost all transportation uses petroleum because it is 80 times more powerful than electricity.
Plastics, Clothing, much of our housing, health and medicine use petroleum products.

Every walk of life is a testament to the miracle of petroleum.

I was told this by a professor in New Testament philosophy class. He has a PHD in religion, and a PHD in psychology. But he was claiming political science experts were saying this was true.
