final will and testament
Atheist asked:

Jesus and the Disciples accepted the Old Testament as God’s word. They could only do this if they themselves believe that God was not benevolent. They also preached the goodness of God, despite his apparent evil. This is because they, like the writers of the Old Testament, do not care if god is ‘good’ or ‘evil’, they are merely slaves to fear.

The Book of Revelations is the climax and final book of the New Testament, where it is said that God will once again revert to his Old Testament ways… the suffering and pain described in the apocalypse is something that a good god could never let happen. To even believe that God do this is to believe in a monstrous demon of a God.

they are all biblical and if there are those that say that Jordyn is not a biblical name, you are correct, i got Jordyn from teh Jordan River which is mentioned all throughout the Old Testament!

If an undivided or un-partition land is in the process for a final partition/survey and land titling between compulsory heirs. Who amongst them have the right to choose first in acquring their desired location of the land? Is it the only surviving son of the land owner, or the one who just got a right to the land via last will and testament?

1 Samuel 15: 3
Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.

If God (as represented in the Old Testament) is perfect, loving and good then can anyone find perfection and goodness in this verse? Ok, let’s assume those babies had to die in order to prevent them from becoming “evil”. But that theory doesn’t fly because plenty of “evil” people are allowed to exist. If the babies had to die for the greater good of mankind then why couldn’t God just painlessly zap them away or let them go to sleep peacefully if they weren’t meant for this world? Wouldn’t that be a more loving approach? That’s why I don’t believe the Bible can be the exact and final word of God. Otherwise, God would be less than perfect. I think the people who have had Near Death Experiences give a better picture of God then some of what is in the Bible.

Assume first that a person has committed a heinous crime against man and his government. For sake of discussion let’s assume a triple homicide where someone broke into a house with the intent to commit murder and did so in a state where 1st degree murder can and will (in this case) be subject to the death penalty. According to both the Ten Commandments and the New Testament, the taking of another life is considered wrong. Therefore the judge who hands down the sentence of death and the jailer who ultimately carries it out would be considered accessories to murder themselves. As much as our society would (probably) agree with the terms of the sentence, it could still be considered fundamentally flawed from a strictly religious standpoint. It may be Gods wish to (unbeknownst to us) ultimately spare the life of the criminal for judgment in heaven and punishment on Gods own terms. In assuming the role of executioner and deciding on who lives and who dies, are we not usurping Gods role in final judgment.
Just for clarification, the whole “eye for and eye… ” parable is part of the old testament. Written long before Jesus walked the earth. I do understand that each state has the right to vote on capital punishment and this question is certainly not aimed at justification from a legal standpoint. The question asks if it is fundamentally wrong. I shed no tears for the truly horrible people who are condemned to die. Just a topic for discussion people.

This morning we heard a well-known televangelist instructing people that if they had to choose between paying their electric bill or their tithe, to send their tithe and let the power companies “do what they have to do”.
This preacher said that God’s tithe was weightier than any light bill, and that people should always put His tithe above their own personal needs.

Without further comment, we notice this particular televangelist lives in a multi-million dollar home; he wears expensive, tailored suits, costly watches and jewelry, and he is chauffered in fancy cars and private airplanes……and we have to ask: How does his message and lifestyle fit with these instructions from the Apostle Paul to the church in Corinth?

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich…..For if the readiness [to give] is present, it [the gift] is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. For this [giving] is not for the ease of others and for your affliction, but by way of equality—at this present time your abundance being a supply for their [fellow believers] need, so that their abundance also may become a supply for your need, that there may be equality; as it is written: “He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little had no lack.” (2 Cor 8:9-15, NASB)

In fact, if you read chapters 8 and 9 in this same letter, much of it sounds the opposite of what we hear:

We’re TOLD “Give so God will open up the windows of heaven and bless you”; “Pay your tithe whether you can pay your bills or not”; “Give so God can get you out of your poverty” (In other words, “give to get”)

Paul preaches “Give cheerfully, according to what you have, not according to what you don’t have”; “Give out of your abundance”; “God gives FIRST so you can have abundance to give to others who are in need, and give so there will be equality, not super abundance for some and not others.”

Are we misreading these Scriptures, or has popular charismatic religion ********* the Scriptures beyone all recognition?

Final question: Is New Testament giving consistent with the law of tithing? Why is it we do not see the word “tithe” after Jesus is crucified and resurrected? The only NT reference to tithe I can find is in Matthew and Luke, where Jesus is rebuking the Pharisees for being careful to tithe mint and dill and cummin, but they neglect the weightier provisions of the law – justice and mercy and faithfulness.

Where is the justice and mercy and faithfulness in telling a poor man that he has to sit in the cold and dark, so that a rich preacher can sit in absolute comfort, luxury and wealth?

Obviously many in the church are heeding these messages, as the preachers become wealthier while many in their congregation struggle. How much longer will we allow ourselves to be fodder for these wolves and charletains?

Can any of you convince me that it is otherwise?

The Bible documented that the Jews would regain their homeland. This happened in the late 1940s.

People claim it was a self-fulfilling prophecy, but how easy is it to take over another person’s land?

Jesus is documented as saying there would be wars and rumors of wars and more earthquakes in the final days and this is EXACTLY what we are seeing.

The Bible says everyone will be identified by a number and this is clearly talking about social security numbers (and equivalent numbers they have in other countries). How could they know?

The Old Testament said Jesus would be born of a virgin and this happened. The Old Testament predicted cities being destroyed.

The New Testament predicted in the final days there would be many unbelievers.

When you factor in the countless predictions that have come true, how can anyone deny these?
Atheists were virtually non-existent in the time of the Bible, yet the Bible predicted many unbelievers.
EDIT: The Old Testament said Jesus would be born specifically to a virgin and this happened.
That is NOT vague.
Denny: When he said he return in some people’s lifetimes, he did not mean that LITERALLY. It was taken OUT OF CONTEXT.

it amazes me how as americans we are so lost and unknowledgable about other cultures and religions.in particular Americans have a biased view of ISLAM and what it means to be a muslim.very few people realize how in fact similar Islam and Christianity are. the only fact seperating muslims and christians is the muslim belief that Jesus(Peace be upon him) was not divine, and was not the son of God. he was his Apostle.Muslims belive in all the Apostles of the Jews and Christians. They just belive that none of them are divine, and God is the only divine being. Muslims beleive that Jesus was the Messiah. They beleive in the 2nd coming of christ, and they belive in the antichrist. how many people know that about Islam?Muhummad is considered the final Apostle in Islam, basically a continuation of Christianity. we have the old testament, the new testament and the Quran is the FINAL TESTAMENT.lol now. just look at the Quran as the FINAL TESTAMENT. does that change yor perception of what islam is?
